Thriving Arts & Culture

Reflections in the parkArts and culture are at the heart of every healthy community and our town has a lot to offer. High Rock Park, Macaulay Point and Saxe Point are only a few examples of our protected parks and great green spaces.

Community is in the Centre

I am committed to funding community groups that contribute towards enhancing our culture and creating a sense of community and belongingness. Residents Association, Community Arts Council, Bucaneer Days Committee, Community Gardens Society, Celebration of Lights, Lantern Festival, Bike Fest and Rib Fest are only Communitya few of the growing volunteer groups that make things happen in our town and I will continue supporting groups and events that are family friendly.

Public art is a great way to engage our community and enrich our culture. I believe that public art contributes to community pride, increases attractiveness of our community and serves as catalyst to economic development and tourism. Esquimalt has a Public Art Policy that should be updated to reflect the changing needs of our community.

We have no shortage of local artists and I am committed to finding ways to support our artists and accommodate permanent and temporary arts and culture exhibits and events throughout our town. I believe arts and culture are at the centre of every engaged community.
